So today I got back from class and I was still not feeling well so I decided to watch a movie, I originally was going to watch Strangers On a Train but Away We Go caught my eye and I figured I would see that as I have wanted to for months. So let me tell you, it was amazing. First of all Focus Features is a genius company, I have never seen a film that I have not loved and I was pretty sure I was not going to be disappointed this time.
The film, based on the adventures of a couple who go on a search for a home for their growing family, is a touching feel good film that combines tender moments, witty dialogue, and genuine characters . This road-trip of sorts does nothing but please, with and all-star cast John Krasinski, Maya Rodolph, , Jeff Daniels, Catherine O' Hara, Paul Schneider, not to mention a hilarious Allison Janney and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
This film made me think constantly throughout the corse about the importance of family and what a family actually is. A large factor in the film is the fact that the main couple are not married yet they have been together for many years and are having a child together. One of the final scenes gives the viewer a commitment that ensures one that the two will be together until death and that is really all you can ask for. Marriage is something that in a way attempts to "prove" commitment but a relationship that does not need to prove anything to anyone but those involved is just as strong. I am not going to lie and say that I don't want to get married when I am older but I'm also not going to lie and say that it would be mainly because I love weddings.
Away We Go gives you everything you anticipate and don't, it gives it all while it gives it's all. I am most definitely putting this on my "to buy" list as well as my favorite movie list. If I were Roger Ebert I would give it a thumbs up but that I am not so I will simply give it my love.
